PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 SECTION INCLUDES

Laminated glass manufactured with 0.015 inch PVB
interlayer meets Category I tests of the Consumer
Product Safety Commission, Federal Standard 16CFR
1201. Laminated glass manufactured with 0.030 inch
PVB interlayer meets Category I and II tests of the
Consumer Product Safety Standard. Both laminated
products comply with ANSI Z97.1.
NOTE **
NOTE ** Any glazing greater than 9 square feet (0.836
square m) intended for use in shower, tub, or patio
door assembly must be certified to comply with
Category II.

2.2 MATERIALS
NOTE ** Glass and interlayer combinations are available in
a wide range of colors and transmissions. Cost and
availability will depend on the specific color and
transmission selected.
A. Interlayer: Plasticized polyvinyl butyral (PVB).
NOTE ** Select PVB thickness and color below; delete those
not required for the project. As an alternative,
when several types of laminated glass are required,
delete thickness and color designations below and
specify under the applications in Article 2.3,
below.

2.3 LAMINATED GLASS
NOTE ** Design charts in ASTM E 1300 are used to select the
proper thickness of laminated glass subject to wind
and snow loads. The procedure involves checking
the strength of a trial laminated glass design
against the design load which has been determined
by the Architect or obtained from applicable
building codes.
A. Provide laminated glass comprised of two or more pieces
of glass and one or more interlayers, permanently bonded
together under heat and pressure.
NOTE ** Select applications for laminated glass from
paragraphs below, adding others as required for the
project. Delete applications not required; delete
insignificant properties within each application.

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Inspect and verify that frame openings are correct size
and conform to recommendations of the glazing
manufacturer.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. Clean frame contact surfaces with compatible solvent and
wipe dry. Do not allow solvent to pool in glazing
channels.
3.3 INSTALLATION
A. Install laminated glass in accordance with manufacturer's
recommendations for edge engagement and expansion
allowance.
B. Employ only sealants and glazing accessories that have
been approved by laminated glass manufacturer.
